Over the decades, Habasit has shaped industrial motion with smart product innovation and continous progress in sustainability. What started as a small Swiss business has grown into a global belting company, driven by innovation, the dedication of our colleagues, and the trust of industries worldwide.
MOVING INTO MOTION
In 1946, Fernand and Alice Habegger founded Habasit in Switzerland with the aim of improving industrial movement. By developing the world's first synthetic conveyor belt, they laid the foundation for a new approach to conveyor technology, combining durability, performance, and safety. This marked the start of Habasit's history in keeping industries in motion.
MOVING WORLDWIDE
Habasit began expanding abroad in the 1960s, opening it's first international subsidiary in the UK in 1965. Over the years, subsidiaries were added across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Africa. Today, we serve customers through affiliated companies, production sites, fabrication centers, and service partners in more than 70 countries worldwide.
MOVING WIDER
In the late 1980s, Habasit advanced belt manufacturing by introducing 4-meter calendering. For the first time, fabric belts could be produced in seamless widths of up to four meters, eliminating the need for longitudinal joints. This breakthrough improved belt integrity and performance and opened new possibilities for large-scale conveying.
MOVING IN SYNC
Introducing Modular and Timing Belts
In the 1990s, Habasit expanded its range with Plastic Modular Belts, enabling flexible, hygienic, and robust conveying for demanding industries. In early 2000s, Timing Belts were added, bringing precise, slip-free synchronization for automated applications. Together, these additions strengthened our ability to deliver reliable, versatile motion-control solutions.
